Sarva Vidyalaya Kelavani Mandal (SVKM) is a prestigious philanthropic educational trust founded in 1919 by visionary educationalist Pujya Chhaganbha (Shri Chhaganlal Pitambardas Patel), inspired by his motto: “કર ભલા હોગા ભલા” (“Do good and good will follow”). Beginning with just six students, SVKM has expanded over more than a century into a dynamic trust overseeing 50,000+ students, with 8,000+ hostel accommodations across its campuses.
SVKM operates multiple campuses—including Kadi (1919), Pilvai (1939), Visnagar (1941), Balol (1952), and Gandhinagar (1977)—offering an extensive educational spectrum from pre-primary to doctoral levels. Its academic ecosystem includes CBSE and GSEB schools, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs—spanning engineering, management, pharmacy, sciences, nursing, education, physiotherapy, and the humanities.
Guided by principles of academic rigor, innovation, entrepreneurship, service, and inclusiveness, SVKM emphasizes value-based education accessible to students of all backgrounds, with strictly merit-based admissions and no management quotas. The trust has also adopted anganwadis and government schools in Gandhinagar to foster educational outreach.
Notably, the organization pioneered the establishment of the first self-financed college in Gujarat (KBIPER – B. Pharm) in 1995 and has steadily added engineering, polytechnic, MBA, and science institutes, including the Kadi Sarva Vishwavidyalaya University (established in 2007).
Over its 100-year legacy, revered figures such as Mahatma Gandhi (visited in 1929), Sir Sayajirao Gaikwad III (contributed in 1926), and astronaut Sunita Williams (whose father studied here) have resonated with SVKM’s dedication to service, social reform, and educational excellence.
Born in February 1929 in Untava village, Kadi (Mehsana district), Shri Maneklal M Patel Sir was the son of a farmer who was raised with strong values of generosity, benevolence, and community service. A bright scholar, he earned a B.A. in Economics and an LL.B., passed the Bar Council, and began his career as Chief Officer of Kadi Municipality in 1958. Over nearly 15 years, he oversaw major developmental initiatives that shaped Kadi’s growth. As Chairman of SVKM for four decades, he expanded its reach—enrolling over 65,000 students across Kadi and Gandhinagar, helping establish Kadi Sarva Vishwavidyalaya (university status in 2008), and championing merit-based admissions with substantial financial aid for economically disadvantaged students.
Shri Maneklal M Patel Sir received numerous honours, including “Patidar Shreshth Shiromani,” the Aanarth Award, the “Karma Chudamani” recognition, and accolades from dignitaries like President Gyani Zailsinghji and then-Revenue Minister Anandiben Patel—for his contributions across education, social upliftment, and industry. A visionary educationalist, he embodied the motto “Education is the True Service.” He introduced scholarships (e.g., the Late Shri M. M. Patel Memorial Scholarship), relaxed fees for lower-income students, and consistently advocated that financial constraints should never be a barrier to education.
Pujya Chhaganbha was a visionary educationist and social reformer who laid the foundation of Sarva Vidyalaya Kelavani Mandal in 1919 with just six students and a strong belief in the power of education. Deeply inspired by the motto “કર ભલા હશે ભલા” (“Do good and good will follow”), he dedicated his life to spreading value-based, affordable education for all, especially in rural and underserved communities.
With unwavering commitment to selfless service, Chhaganbha emphasized moral education, discipline, and community welfare as the pillars of holistic development. His efforts attracted the support of great leaders, including Mahatma Gandhi and Sir Sayajirao Gaikwad III, who recognized the noble mission of his educational movement.
Today, his legacy lives on through SVKM’s vast network of institutions, nurturing thousands of students and upholding the ideals of simplicity, service, and excellence that Pujya Chhaganbha embodied.
